Pres. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III has emphasized the key role of cooperatives in advancing the country's economy and in contributing to nation-building.

"Cooperatives  are crucial to democratizing access to capital, Pres. Aquino said in a written message to the recent 24th General Assembly of the Holy Cross Savings and Credit Cooperative.

"By making credit readily available, they (cooperatives) allow more of our citizens to participate in advancing our economy," the President said.

He pointed out that the General Assembly is a welcome excercise "because it will allow you to become better at managing your enterprises and sustaining the gains that you have achieved over the past years,".

Pres. Aquino also called on the cooperative's members, saying this may also lead to more initiatives that would further promote the growth of your cooperative and deepen its engagement with the City of Valenzuela and its nearby environs.

As the cooperative gathers for its General Assembly, the President said, he hopes that the members will pursue their responsibilities with even greater passion and excellence  to maximize opportunities, to contribute more effectively to our collective task of nation-building.

"I count on your cooperation and support in accelerating the momentum of our revitalization, that we may realize our nation's vast potential and create for ourselves a more equitably prosperous Philippines," Pres. Aquino concluded.  (END).
