While leaders of cooperatives will converge on Oct. 16-18, 2014 in Cebu for the 12th National Cooperative Summit, the Philippine Councilors' League (PCL), will have its own "1st National Cooperative Summit" on Oct. 16-28, 2014 at the Crown Regency Resort & Convention Center in Malay, Aklan.

For this, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), issued DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2014-118, dated September 15, 2014, urging all City and Municipal Mayors of the country to allow the attendance on official time by COOPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT OFFICERS and PCL members to the PCL Co-op Summit, which will also be the PCL's General Assembly.

According to the DILG Circular, the Summit will have technical sessions that will enhance awareness on global and national cooperative movements; pending legislative matters on cooperatives; and issues and concerns affecting local cooperatives.

Likewise, as programmed in the Philippine Councilors' League Strategic Plan, there will be an election of officers of the PCL Cooperative, it was said.

The issuance of the DILG Circular was upon the request of Councilor Alma Moreno, PCL National Chairperson; Councilor Maybelyn DC Fernandez, National President; and Councilor Jesus Manuel Suntay, Cooperative Interim Chairman, according to reports.

As an official activity, the PCL 1st National Cooperative Summit and General Assembly, will enable Municipal Cooperative Developement Officers, and Councilors to claim expenses for their travelling, hotel accommodation, registration fee costs, etc. (END).
