QUEBEC – As a member of the Proxfin international network, NATCCO proudly endorses THE DECLARATION released after the third International Summit of Cooperatives, held in Quebec City, Canada, October 11 to 13. A major event organized jointly by Desjardins Group and International Co-operative Alliance, this year's edition focused on the power of cooperatives and mutuals to act on the major socioeconomic challenges of our times.
Attracting 2,950 stakeholders from 116 countries and featuring over 230 distinguished speakers, such as economists Joseph E. Stiglitz and Robert Reich, the Summit's conferences, forums and roundtables triggered valuable discussions on the economy, the environment, innovation and women's leadership.
Prior to the Summit, Proxfin held its Annual General Meeting. Ms Sylvia Okinlay-Paraguya presided the meeting as the outgoing Chairperson of Proxfin. Ms. Paraguya was the Chair since 2012.
A new Management Committee was elected composed of the major regions covered by Proxfin, are:
• Jorge Andrés Lopez Bautista, Coopcentral (Colombia) - Chairperson
• Victorin Codjo Houedanou, Faîtière des caisses d’épargne et de crédit agricole mutuel (FECECAM, Bénin) – Vice President
• Fortunatas Dirgincius, Lithuanian Central Credit Union (Lithuania)
• Elenita San Roque, Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (Thailand)
• Charles Nalyaali, Entrepreneurs Financial Centre (Uganda)
In parallel, Luz Yringco, Chair of the NATCCO Resiliency Committee, and CEO of Abuyog St Francis Credit Cooperative in Leyte, shared her experience during a pre-Summit activity entitled “Cooperatives and Mutuals in Action – Rebuilding After Natural Disasters”.
Proxfin activities also featured a workshop on Credit Risk Management with representatives from Desjardins Group and Proxfin.
Finally, Proxfin celebrated the network's 10 years of existence with a cocktail reception for members and guests during which participants evoked the key stages in Proxfin's history.
The next annual meeting of Proxfin will be held in the fall of 2017 in Colombia and will focus on agricultural and rural financing.
NATCCO is proud to participate in events such as the International Summit of Cooperatives that help improve practices in inclusive finance and thereby contribute to increased access to diversified and secure financial services.
